In love with Bruxelles

There is simply no reason not to love this city.
It is a perfect example of old meets new, where culture interlaces with technology. Sightseeing was exceptionally interesting and enjoyable.
Enjoy the pics :)

The Town Hall of Bruxelles
A magnificent building with the statue of St. Michael slaying the devil on top of its tower. Both the exterior and interior were artistically constructed. The floor tiles remind me of a blazing sun, Haha.

Guildhouses
The presence of these elaborately decorated guildhouses makes the entire Market Place more grand and beautiful looking! The designs of these houses reveal how wealthy and important the owners were. I like the one with a golden man on horse statue. It is known as Maison des Brasseurs, previously owned by the Brewers guild.

La maison du Roi

It simply means The King's House in English terms.
A decorative building with many small statues at the top.
Contrary to its name, no King had ever lived there.
Today, it houses the City Museum of Brussels.

Mannekin-Pis

The famous Mannekin-Pis statue which had been around since 1619.
Actually, it is just a small bronze peeing boy around the street corner, nothing magnificent or amazing. But i suppose no one will visit Bruxelles and miss out on this famous landmark .
When we went there, he was naked. Kinda disappointed, because i was told that the boy has a wardrobe of various interesting costumes.
Heard that there is a female version known as Jeanneke Pis, but since it wasn't a legendary icon, we didn't visit it.

A self confessed food lover.
Belgian food is simply love at first sight and cravings for more after the first bite.
Mussels in a pot with White wine sauce, awfully intoxicating.
Highly recommended by the Japanese colleagues.
Indeed, I felt like i could go on in pots after pots!
One can never go wrong with desserts like strawberry crepes!
Fresh strawberries and chocolate sauce. it feels like heaven on earth!

Cathédrale Saint-Michel

A remarkable historical site with spectacular Gothic architecture that totally astonished me. You gotta see to believe its beauty. It is an iconic Roman Catholic church in Bruxelles where many royal weddings and christenings take place.
My favourite historic religious landmark, so far.

The Atomium
One monument that looks like it had flew in from outer space.

Windmills

Apart from the traditional wooden wind mils, modern windmills are commonly seen along the highways. I don't know why, windmills give me a sad feeling, standing so tall, yet so lonely.

The sightings of windmills soon marked the departure of our trip, as we headed back to Amsterdam from Bruxelles.
I love Bruxelles, and i think there are still so much more awaiting me to explore.

Belgium, pinned in my map of favourite cities :)

P/S: Indulging in Belgium chocolates and chocolate liqueur, want some ? ^^

daily dose of poker

Recently, became a little addicted to poker.
Have been playing daily on FB Zynga!

The other day at tea party cafe @ 6th avenue....
Playing in cold sweat against hardcore gamblers like Edm and Eileen.
They are damnnnnnnnn pro!

Full house A*A*A*8*8
My winning hand, after rounds of loss. :(

Guess i still need my "calamari, chicken wings" piece of paper.

Anyway, hope everyone wins $$$ from Texas Tuesday.
I'll be there in my lucky underwear, soon!!!! hahaha.

Queen of gamblers under training :)

A dog is a man’s best friend

Do you know how many dogs are abandoned in SG each year? Countless.

Buying a pet dog on impulse, or as a form of novelty, many owners ended up giving away their dogs to welfare organisations such as SPCA or abandoning them on the streets. Seriously, where is their sense of responsibilty? And the cruel truth is, many of these unwanted dogs will be put to sleep if no one wants to adopt them.

Let me quote what may seem a cliché to everyone - "A dog is a man’s best friend"…How many times have you heard that phrase before? Perhaps a thousand times. But sadly, how many people out there really put these words to heart?

*************************************************************

The other day, a stray dog appeared at Eileen's office.
Thinking that it might be someone's lost pet, they called SPCA, and only to find out that the poor dog has no owner at all. Despite a hectic work schedule, they decided to keep the dog and it had been under Eileen's care for a couple of days. Coincidentally, this dog appeared in the newspapers in conjuction with World Animal Day.

*The newspaper article from Eileen*

Over the weekends, i visited this lovable dog. (it's a female dog with no name) At the first sight, she pranced around me excitedly and began sniffing and licking me with curiousity. Although i fear big dogs, she is likeable and very friendly towards me. Thus, we decided to bring the dog out in the hope to allow her to bask in the nature and also mingle with other dogs. We brought her to a dog cafe in Turf city.

*Good girl lying on me in the ride, coz im giving her massage!! Haha*

*Woof, the dog wasn't looking into the camera at all. lol *

Not many dining places in SG are pet-friendly. But this cafe situated in Turf city caters specially for dogs and their owners to dine together. Dining in a dog cafe is such an interesting and enjoyable experience. hahahaha.

Because.... all the dogs come to you....
Like how bees are attracted to honey.... Haha.

Illustrations above are just for fun :)

*************************************************************

i like the feeling.
Our canine fella greet us with a wag and a lick.

To us, she is just a dog, but i know, to her, we are her only friends.

Love your pets, because, you mean the world to them.

*************************************************************

"A man’s dog stands by him in prosperity and in poverty, in health and in sickness. He will sleep on the cold ground, where the wintry winds blow and the snow drives fiercely, if only he may be near his master’s side. He will kiss the hand that has no food to offer, he will lick the wounds and sores that come in encounters with the roughness of the world. He guards the sleep of his pauper master as if he were a prince. When all other friends desert, he remains. When riches take wings and reputation falls to pieces, he is as constant in his love as the sun in its journey through the heavens.

If fortune drives the master forth an outcast in the world, friendless and homeless, the faithful dog asks no higher privilege than that of accompanying him to guard against danger, to fight against his enemies, and when the last scene of all comes, and death takes the master in its embrace and his body is laid away in the cold ground, no matter if all other friends pursue their
way, there by his graveside will the noble dog be found, his head between his paws, his eyes sad but open in alert watchfulness, faithful and true even to death. "
- Eulogy on the Dog by George Graham Vest, 1870.

I'm not bulletproof

Just a simple touch, Just a little glance
Makes me feel like flyin'.But where are you tonight?
Something isn't right, Can you please stop hiding?

I'm trying not to think abt all the things you did before,
But sometimes it all just gets to me.
I can't take it anymore. I'll stay with you,
But remember to be careful what you do,
Cause I'm not bulletproof.

In your secret place, staring into space,
Leaves me feeling frozen.
I just need to feel, that what we have is real.
And I'm the one you've chosen.

Be careful what you say, Be careful what you do.
I'm not bulletproof....

Dare to stand out

Heading to the Willis Tower, Turn right to Wacker Dr !

The Willis Tower - 233 South Wacker Dr.

Here we are!!
At the world-renowned building, the famous Chicago iconic landmark!

How high can you go?
As shown in the lift's screen.
At level 88 equivalent to Paris's Eiffel tower.
The elevation is indeed exciting.

Up, up, and up~
103rd floor up to the Skydeck. 1353 feet above ground.
Not for people with acrophobia. Thank god, I'm perfectly normal.

The latest additon to the Skydeck since July'09.
The Ledge - Total of 4 glass balconies which are extended out from the skyscraper. The glass boxes are suspended in the air, providing an all-rounded, unobstructed views of Chicago. Super cool!

Skydeck's The Ledge.
The view was splendid! Totally amazing!
Could see miniature people and cars at the bottom of my feet.
Felt a little queasy initially, but it was totally safe!
Walking in the air! :)

Exhilarating moment in time :)
I really like this full-body shot taken at the second ledge.
It was taken from the opposite ledge, thus it was slightly unclear.
Been there, done that :)

We actually hoped to take many photos but there were too many people waiting behind us. The place was overcrowded with tourists. On another note, the background view was not so pretty due to the cloudy weather. What a pity :(

Chicago's cityscape on a cloudy noon.

Could hardly snap nice close-up shots together with the scenic backview.
But my self-portrait actually managed to capture one of the glassbox.. :)

At the highest point of the city.
Could see the entire cityscape, including the Chicago River.
On a clear day, one can actually see beyond Chicago, including the nearby states such as Michigan and Illinois.

Dare to stand out @ Chicago 103th floor???
Yeah, I DID (^^)/
